The application of a piecewise-linear multi-category pattern classifier with self-evolving capabilities to the interpretation of mass spectra

A piecewise-linear pattern classifier is applied to the interpretation of low resolution mass spectral data. A criterion for internal generation of new weight vectors based on periodic evaluation of a function is tested. Results are presented for classification problems pertaining to molecular formula and structural information and are compared with results from a binary pattern classifier.
