Gaussian decomposition of two-dimensional shapes: A unified representation for CAD and vision applications

A new parametric representation for two-dimensional (2D) shapes is introduced using Gaussians as basis functions. In this representation, to design a shape, the parameters of the Gaussians are specified. To recognize a shape, the shape is decomposed into Gaussians and the parameters of the Gaussians are used as features. Methods to design free-form shapes in CAD applications and recognize shapes in vision applications are described using the proposed representation.
