摘要

Estimation of different properties of a continuous (predigitized) curve from its digitized contour is an important problem with applications in various disciplines of computer science. In this context, the problem of estimating the original length of a line segment in three dimensions given its quantization in a suitable form is considered. Four types of characterization schemes for the digitized contour are presented along with a set of estimators. The average errors of these estimators are found out experimentally. The domains of characterization are formulated for the first three schemes and the theoretical average errors are calculated for the first two. The theoretical and the experimental errors are found to tally within computational accuracy.
