On a method of automatically compressing fonts with high resolution

A method of automatically compressing an original font with high resolution is proposed. Also proposed is a method of automatically reconstructing a high quality reconstructed font as the original font from a compressed font at high speed. Experimental results show that an original font with high resolution (256 × 256 [pixel char−1], 8 [kbyte char−1]) in the brush-written style is automatically compressed to 0.5 [kbyte char−1] on average. A reconstructed font of any size keeps its high quality. Reconstruction time for a character of A4 size is 1 [s char−1] on average in a middle-scaled computer (1 [MIPS]).
