摘要

The slope density description of silhouettes is defined, and the mechanism of a simple, parallel machine for its automatic generation is given. A theoretical analysis of the properties of the slope density description is performed. In particular, the effect of a linear filter on the output of the slope density machine is studied, and it is shown that under certain specified conditions, a filtered version of the machine output is equal, with vanishing error, to the true slope density. Finally, an algorithm that simulates the mechanism of the machine is given, suitable for experimental studies on a computer.
