Algebraic, topological and categorical aspects of pattern recognition: A survey

Mathematical foundations of pattern recognition are considered here. After presenting a sketch of algebraic syntactic and of topological approaches, we propose a unifying categorical formalism. Special attention is given to skeletons, and several theorems are stated.
