The measurement of circularity and ellipticity on a digital grid

摘要

A new method is presented, based on the discrete Fourier transform of an ordered sequence of boundary points, for measuring the circularity and ellipticity of object boundaries, together with a parametric description of their best-fitting circles or ellipses. Techniques for rapid computation are discussed. An analysis of quantization error with verification by computer experiment is presented.
