Using probabilities in analyzing two dimensional spatial patterns

Common practice when displaying data based on a Cartesian plane, such as maps, is to shade areas according to arbitrary divisions of the frequency distribution of the variable of interest. We introduce a variant of Choynowski's probability-based shading method. The new technique is applied to an example from integrated circuit production.
