The continuation method for rational and deficient systems

Deficient polynomial systems (those with fewer than the full number of solutions) cannot be solved efficiently with the usual continuation methods. This paper describes a continuation technique which allows some deficient and rational systems of equations to be solved with little wasted computation. Several examples from the literature are discussed.
