Mathematical analysis of flow of non-Newtonian fluid due to metachronal beating of cilia in a tube and its physiological applications

• The ciliary flow of seminal fluid (non-Newtonian fluid) in the vas deferens of the male reproductive tract has been investigated.
• The theoretical value of the volumetric flow rate obtained from the present model is in good agreement with the experimental value.
• The numerical values of pressure gradient are computed by subroutine “root (f (y), y, a, b)” of the MATHCAD package.
• The effects of ε, α, β and Qav on the plug core radius is, for the first time, brought out to the attention.
• The present study brings out a new observation on the variation of flow resistance with the parameters ε, α, and β.
