The representation of rules in the ER model

Production rules are the most commercially popular and successful structure for representing knowledge. The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate how such rules may be represented in a simple entity-relationship structure. Using this structure, we implement an example inference engine in a procedural language and a knowledge base in an RDBMS. The inference engine accesses the knowledge via SQL.
