Recognition of fish species by colour and shape

摘要

Algorithms for generating shape and colour descriptors from fish images are described. The descriptors are unaffected by fish bending and deformations. Using these descriptors, 18 species of demersal and five species of pelagic fish are sorted with a reliability of 100% and 98%, respectively. Implications for the design of a sorting machine are discussed.
