Information management in British local education authorities

摘要

This paper traces progress in introducing information technology to support administrative and managerial functions in British Local Education Authorities and their schools since 1983. The effects on this process of recent legislation changing the relationship between LEAs and their schools is described. In particular, the move towards preparing information technology implementation strategies and the somewhat belated recognition of the need for information management of the system is noted. Some likely areas of future difficulty are outlined.
