Transfer of geographical information systems to Poland as an example of the transfer of information technology

Information technology is now available to many countries but there can be problems in the transfer of the technology. The transfer of geographical information systems (GIS) to Poland provides an example of this. Transfer of technology is considered as a multidimensional phenomenon; as a cultural phenomenon; social, economic and political phenomenon. It is also considered in terms of its technical and organizational aspect and legal issues. A case-study on the transfer of technology to Poland is described together with work on research aspects and applications. Conclusions on conditions for the successful transfer of GIS to Poland are given.
