摘要

Information systems practitioners/professionals have been responsible for the successful introduction of information technology and transformation of information systems in many organizations. The growth in information technology has been responsible for the many changes initiated in the information systems field and as custodians of technology we have enjoyed an increasingly important role in the organizational authority and decision-making network. However, recent advances in the capability of technology are beginning to affect not only the end-user but also the way we design and develop information systems. This article evaluates the impact of such changes on the environment, their effects on our role as information systems practitioners and how we have chosen to respond to these challenges. It explores the range of methodologies available, the implications of their use, and suggests how we as a profession could continue to maintain the effectiveness of our contribution to the ever-changing information systems field.
