The impact of a discontinuous innovation: Outcomes experienced by owners of home computers

This paper offers a framework for conceptualizing the events that follow adoption of a microcomputer. Three distinct outcomes of adoption were examined: degree of usage, satisfaction, and attitude toward the technology. Product strength, adopter resources, instrumentality and social integration were used to explain variation in the outcomes experienced by individual adopters. This framework was applied to the results of three mail surveys of owners of home computers. Product strength and social integration with other users proved to be the key determinants of outcomes.
