Human-computer interactions: Are there adverse health consequences?

Similarities may exist between laboratory research paradigms evoking elevated blood pressure during task performance by normal subjects and naturalistic video display terminal work undertaken by data clerks and college students. Questionnaire survey data indicate that many video display terminal operators show mood reactions that are similar to an “anger” component of the Type A behavior pattern. Task evoked blood pressure elevations exhibited by angry video display terminal operators during typical human-computer interactions may pose risks for the development of coronary heart disease.
