Digital coding of television signals—CCIR activities for standardization

The paper summarizes the activities of the CCIR Study Groups involved in the standardization efforts for digital coding and transmission of television signals. The relevant Questions and Study Programmes are briefly explained and the status of work is shown on the basis of associated Reports and Recommendations. The work pushed ahead in Interim Working Party 11/7 and CMTT/2 within the current Study Period is outlined. The results achieved in formulating user requirements and quality objectives for H2, H3 and H4 channels as defined by CCITT and in the standardization of practical codecs for 30 to 45 Mbit/s and 140 Mbit/s respectively are described.
