Syntax based error concealment

An error resilience technique for MPEG2 compressed video is introduced. Errors are located in the compressed domain using a parity check, and then are corrected using residual redundancy in the compressed video stream. This redundancy is in the form of the MPEG syntax and in spatial smoothness. Performance is comparable to a standard Reed–Solomon (RS) code for BERs up to 10−5. Complexity is estimated to be better for these BERs.
