摘要

The conversion of design goals to a specific manufacturing process is a multiperspective problem. Its constituent activities are: problem solving, constraint-based reasoning, goal achieving, resources utilization, and conflict resolution. These activities are a part of intelligent human behavior. For this reason, the conversion of design goals to a manufacturing process has been the focus of many studies within different theoretical and practical disciplines. This paper introduces a new approach consisting of a knowledge-based system to work out an optimal process to convert a given set of design goals to a manufacturing process. A set of goals to design a vice was used to run and to test the developed knowledge-based system. Since the knowledge base and the inference engine were constructed and programmed in generic terms, they can be implemented to convert design goals of large varieties of products to their manufacturing processes.
