• We comment on potential reasons for the phase of disillusionment which blockchain technology has entered with regard to sharing economy platforms.

• We suggest that there exist three misconceptions with regard to the applicability of blockchain technology to many platform businesses in general and the sharing economy in particular (trust-free fallacy, disintermediation fallacy, consumer will fallacy).
