Note on the theory of the w-index

We analyze the w-index introduced by Wohlin (2009) theoretically. We formalize its definition mathematically and at the same time introduce a slightly more intuitive variation which also satisfies Woeginger's definition of a scientific impact index. We then find its dependence on the number of cited papers from Lotka's Law.
