摘要

This paper describes the PRIMO system, a PROLOG-Relational Interface developed at the University of Modena. The main design goals of PRIMO include portability, modularity, and transparency. As a result of portability, the PRIMO interface can be established between any two PROLOG and relational systems, provided that the former supports a call to the operating system and that the latter supports SQL. Modularity enables us to separate the system into its components; each component has several, different versions, whose relative performance is benchmarked. Transparency is fully achieved, because the user interacts with a standard PROLOG program.
