A comparative analysis of the information sectors of South Korea, Singapore and Taiwan

Advances in information technology are transforming society and rapidly generating an “information revolution” that matches the “industrial revolution” in its impact on the dynamics of socio-economic change. However, developed nations are experiencing high productivity, while the developing nations encounter difficulties employing this technology. Disparities already in existence between the developed and developing nations could be accentuated with new information technology. However, newly industrializing countries, in particular South Korea, Singapore, and Taiwan, have been able to develop the information sectors as strategic industries to gain international competitiveness. Nevertheless, there are a number of challenges to be faced and problems to be solved by the NICs if progress in information sector is to continue.
