Introduction to data transmission for information retrieval

An introduction is presented to data transmission technology and networks for information retrieval purposes. Data signals are analysed, and modulation techniques are discussed. Communication procedures between terminals and the CPU are surveyed. Possible network configurations are considered, and terminal hardware is mentioned. Examples are given for the ESA/RECON network.
