A net benefits approach to measuring retrieval performance

This article proposes new measures of database retrieval performance that incorporate preferences for information and output consumption. It incorporates a value that Blair has called the information consumer's “point of futility”; the volume at which the consumer becomes overloaded with retrieved information.
