摘要

Existing guidelines for evaluating computer applications within psychology are not having a sufficient impact on professional practices. The chief reason for this unfortunate state of affairs is the gap between the information which is available to potential users and the information needed to make an informed decision about the appropriate application of a particular software package. This conclusion is supported by the range of responses received to requests the author sent to software vendors for information about their psychological software, and the results of a survey of 400 practicing psychologists. The implications of this information gap are discussed and recommendations are made for how test developers, users, reviewers, and others can help bridge this gap.
