Assessing semantic knowledge using computer-based and paper-based media

Using a within-subjects design, 75 naval pilots and flight officers were administered computer-based and paper-based tests to assess semantic knowledge in order to determine the relative reliabilities and validities of these two measurement modes. Estimates of internal consistencies, equivalences, and discriminative validities were computed for multiple performance measures. It was revealed that the relative reliabilities derived for these two assessment schemes using multivariate measurement criteria were not significantly different, and the discriminant validity of computer-based measures was superior to paper-based measures.
