Line structure extraction from line-drawing images

摘要

A method for line structure extraction is proposed from line-drawing images which may also contain characters and symbols. First, the method detects line cues by using a directional distance propagation technique which measures lengths and widths of graphical elements during forward and backward raster scanning of the image. Then, the method produces a set of approximated lines by fitting lines to the line cues. Finally, the approximated lines are merged into vector data representing the original image concisely and neatly. An experiment with a line-drawing image in which characters lie across lines shows that the proposed algorithm appears to work well.
