• An improved synchronization criterion for CNNs with input saturation is proposed by using the polynomial piecewise-continuous delay dependent Lyapunov functional.

• A clock-dependent Lyapunov functional approach incorporated with looped functionals is firstly proposed in this paper, where the information of inter sampling behavior is fully utilized in the construction of a Lyapunov functional.

• The proposed method provides a wider range of saturation attraction compared with the loopedfunctional approach.
