Microcare—promises and pitfalls in implementing microcomputer programs in human service agencies

More than five years after an integrated microcomputer system for direct care, administration, and research was introduced into a human service agency. The promises and pitfalls are reviewed. The positive results included decreased costs, increased quality of care, ad improved working conditions. The negative results included increased time spent on computer-related aspects and the inability of the agency to deal with the quantity and quality of work generated.
